About Us

Our Story

Founded in 2001, Rooted in Coquitlam, Made with Heart

A Local Legacy

At Pasta Polo, we believe that a great meal is more than just ingredients on a plate—it’s a connection to the community we call home. While our name is well-known, our kitchen is purely independent. We are a family-owned and operated destination, dedicated to serving the residents of tri-cites with a level of care and authenticity that only a local neighbor can provide.

Crafted by Hand, Served with Pride

Our philosophy is simple: quality takes time. From the first boil of the morning pasta to the slow-simmered sauces that fill our dining room with the scent of home, everything we do is rooted in the "made from scratch" tradition. We aren't just a restaurant; we are a culinary workshop where professional technique meets the warmth of a family kitchen.

More Than Just a Meal

For us, being part of this community means showing up when it matters. Whether we are serving hundreds of portions of homemade chili at the CPKC Holiday Train to benefit the SHARE Society or supporting local heritage, local sports team, schools and hospitals and so on, we believe in giving back to the community that has supported us for years. When you dine with us, you aren’t just supporting a business—you’re supporting a family that is deeply invested in the growth and heart of this community.

The Team

Sylvie Sutherland - General Manager

  A Legacy of Excellence

Hailing from Hull, Quebec, Sylvie brings over 30 years of elite customer service experience to Pasta Polo. Her career has seen her provide hospitality to a diverse range of guests—from the general public and government officials to international dignitaries. This breadth of experience has given her a sophisticated understanding of service that is rare to find, making her an indispensable leader of our front-of-house team.

Precision & Proactive Leadership

Sylvie’s hallmark is her ability to stay "one step ahead." Her meticulous attention to detail is one of Pasta Polo’s greatest assets, ensuring that every table is set to perfection and every guest’s needs are anticipated before they are even voiced. As a manager, she doesn't just lead; she inspires, mentoring our staff to maintain the high standards that define our independent restaurant.

The Heart of the Floor

Beyond her managerial expertise, Sylvie is a true team player who leads by example. She is at her best when the restaurant is at its busiest. Whether she is coordinating a sudden rush of guests or stepping in to support her servers during a full house, Sylvie’s calm under pressure and "hands-on" dedication ensure that our guests always enjoy a seamless and memorable dining experience.

Ahyoung Baek - Chef-owner

 Culinary Craft & Community Leadership

At the helm of Pasta Polo is Ahyoung Baek, a leader in the British Columbia culinary scene. As the Board member for the BC Chefs' Association, Ahyoung brings a high standard of professional excellence and technical skill to the kitchen, ensuring that every dish meets the rigorous expectations of the craft.

Dedicated to Our Heritage

Ahyoung’s passion for the Tri-Cities area extends far beyond the kitchen. As a Board Member of the Port Moody Museum, she is deeply committed to preserving the history and culture of our region. This love for local heritage is what drives the restaurant’s mission: to remain a steadfast, independent pillar of the community where history and modern flavor meet.

A Family Affair

When she isn’t managing the restaurant or contributing to local boards, Ahyoung is often seen in the community with her husband, Jeremy, and their two children, Jason and Alyssa. For Ahyoung, Pasta Polo isn't just a career—it’s a legacy of hospitality that she is proud to share with her family and yours.
